Dear Dr Patnaik,

I have become an unabashed fan of yours. I read "The pregnant King" some time ago and was fascinated not only by the sheer scope of the indian myths (they seemed to have a much more mature understanding of gender roles, wealth, sexuality, and possibilities of science) but also the easy way it almost read itself - I had to read it one stretch.

I got "From Shiva to Sankara" last week. Again, so many myths, and one theme running through all of them....

It is the same in this article. I am sure many have been aware of many of the myths in this article. But to notice this theme running through these otherwise disparate myths, and to write so brilliantly about it! It gives as much please as a lata mangeshkar song, an Ali punch or a federer forehand!

keep writing!

Dear Devdutt g.,

A nice account on Greek myth made me to remember that Ram of ramayana when winning the battle with Ravan in Lanka, at the end of each day he use to creminate each and every body including the Asuras's body whom he fought with. when asked about this to Ram,
he explaines that when they are alive they were playing the role they had given. After death there is no enemy to no one. Our Rama did not had this victory diesease.
"Hubris means great arrogance which manifests in the humiliation and shaming of those around. In Hubris, a man loses all good sense, and assumes he is greater than the gods, a master of his own destiny. Hubris it the victory disease, the megalomania that follows when one gets what one desires."
